Alexa Harter

Pastel Ballet

Alexa Harter’s work often straddles the states of life and movement, focusing on fleshy bodies or skeletal structures. In referencing transient motions of the body, Harter’s compositions tend to evoke pop art and contemporary artworks.  She emphasizes the ephemerality of life and the complexity of what lies beneath the human form. When drawing from life, Harter uses deep shadows and highlights to suggest a sense of soft and hard edges in her figures. She relies on traditional drawing methods, sometimes combined with collaging to achieve a sense of “realness” in her works.
