In Darian Boren's ceramic work she is inspired by a modern bohemian style of the 70's to create functional pieces for home décor use. She often uses macramé, plants and soy candles with her ceramics to achieve this specific aesthetic. Her work has a commercial feel and she often thinks about modern trends that could help sell her products. She draws inspiration from organic and natural elements from the Earth such as crystals, rocks, geodes, water and plants. Boren uses a variety of objects such as recycled glass, commercial and studio made glazes, wooden beads, macrame and colored thread, soy wax, crystals, dried flowers, and glitter.

Geode Coasters 2019

Geode Coasters contains a set of four hand thrown coasters. The work uses recycled glass shards to mimic the appearance of sliced geodes. The intent is to show the relationship between beautiful objects found in nature and the functionality of everyday items in the home.

Ceramic Cylinder 2019

Ceramic Cylinder is a hand thrown vessel, glazed with celedon and clear glaze. This combination of glazes pays tribute to colors commonly found in nature. The artist’s desired look is to mimic land and sky or even land and water. When experimenting with glaze combinations it is common for each glaze to react differently when applied with different coats or with different glazes. In this process, it is next to impossible to get the same result twice.

Untitled 2019

Untitled is a hand thrown flower pot decorated with an artificial succulent. Untitled is glazed with Phils white and seacrest, creating an organic color combination that works visually with the different textures shown on the bottom of the pot.

Ceramic Plate 2019

Ceramic Plate is meant to also express natural colors found in land and water by using the same glaze combination as Ceramic Cylinder. When used together, celedon and clear glazes create an organic color scheme.
