Hu Haolei’s work combines material technology and art, including screenprints and etchings to create unique print forms. The work uses these technologies to suggest traditional painting with classical atmospheres. This combination can be seen in the piece “The Howl of the Clown”.

Screen print and copper plate etching were used to create this work. Artists use warm light to describe good and cool light to convey evil. Here a clown is covered in colors against a grey background. The swirling colors suggest a rich man with a colorful life. The grey tones represent the most marginalized people in society.
